Can You Feel Implantation?

Implantation, not to be confused with the contraceptive implant, is where a fertilized egg implants into the uterus lining. For many women, this is a telling sign of pregnancy. Can You Feel Implantation?

The earliest signs of implantation, somewhat annoyingly, mimic the signs of an on coming period. This can make it difficult to distinguish between a successful implantation and the start of your period, as cramping can occur. Many women experience cramps during their period, the same type of cramp can be felt after implantation, as the uterus changes. Some feel this cramp at the same time implantation has occurred.

Can You Feel Implantation Cramping?

It is important to note that not all women will experience cramps upon implantation. Those that do experience cramping will do so during implantation, between six and twelve days after ovulation. This method of knowing wether a person is pregnant dates back much longer than conventional pregnancy tests, and can lead to feelings of anticipation, or nervousness.

The cramp is usually only felt on one side, and can last from a couple of minutes, or much longer. Many women say that they have experienced these cramps during implantation. So the answer to the question – can you feel implantation? – Is yes, you can, but not all do.

Whether or not people can feel implantation or how long people feel it differs:

 “I remember waking up in the middle of the night to a sharp pain in my left side, which was constant for about five minutes. Then I experienced cramping for around four hours! This was all six days after I ovulated. When I underwent an ultrasound, there was my baby, in the same place I felt the pinch and cramping.”

“I experienced a sharp pinch, which felt like a gas bubble, in my right lower side of my pelvis. This lasted for about two minutes, then after that I felt nauseous for the remainder of the day.”

“I awoke one night and began to feel a pinching pain on my right side (like a cramp). It felt horrible for about fifteen minutes, at which point it went away. Since then, I have had no such experience, and felt no cramps.”

Other Signs of Implantation

As mentioned, the signs of a successful implantation mimic that of a period. Other signs of a successful implantation include mood swings, headaches, fatigue, and bloating. Another, very common sign of a successful implantation is nausea.

Many women will experience a feeling of nausea, and it is one of the first signs to tell wether implantation has been successful, usually happening to women before they miss their period.

Implantation bleeding is also very common and normal, but it does not occur in all women. The bleeding is caused by blood vessels breaking as the fetus enters the uterus. The way to differentiate implantation bleeding from period bleeding is the duration in which it lasts.Implantation bleeding does not last that long, and it remains a dark brown color as opposed to brighter.

It is also possible for your temperature to slightly drop for about a day, although, unless you are regularly monitoring your body temperature, this will be a hard sign to notice for most.
