What Is Juvederm?
Juvedermis a facial filler that is injected on the face of a patient. It is used by plastic, dermatological and cosmetic surgeons. It basically reduces wrinkles and soften folds that form on the face. A large percentage of the substance is hyaluronic acid that is usually found in the tendons, muscles and skin of mammals. Juvederm was approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration in 2006 and it is primarily used in the removal of smile lines and lines that form from the nose to the corners of the mouth. It is also used to fill hollow spaces on the face and used as an agent of lip augmentation.
How It Works?
Juvederm is used to improve your lips appearance by adding:
- Volume
- Shape
- Structure
The results of the injection normally last for about 6 months, and then you have to get more injections to reinstate the state of your lips.
Juvederm Before and After Experience
Treatment for lips:
Ollie’s mom gives her Juvederm before and after experience. Her friend went to get the injection first and she liked it. She went and got her lips done in August. Lines had formed on her upper lip and after the Juvederm, they were all gone. She acknowledged that it is not a permanent solution and will probably go back in April, but her lips definitely look better than they did before. For fine lines:

Facial filling:
LilMsSunshine had her procedure done by a plastic surgeon who admitted to a complication during the facial filler procedure. Though it is considered rare, when getting the injection there is a possibility of running into a blood vessel. When this happens, 1st a bruise appears, followed by a rash and eventually tiny pus filled blisters appear. This happens because the Juvederm blocking the flow of blood and if it is not treated the results are disastrous. It can result in terrible facial scaring and dead soft tissue. As for LilMsSunshine, the surgeon prescribed antibiotics and medication that helps in circulation.
Important Safety Information
Patients who have had a history of allergies or have severe allergies should not be injected with Juvederm. This applies also to persons who have had history of anaphylaxis and patients allergic to Gram-positive bacterial proteins. Patients with a history of allergies to lidocaine should not be injected with JuvedermUltra Plus XC and JuvedermUltra XC.
Warnings and Precautions
Blood vessels should not be injected with Juvederm. If the injection site has an infection or inflammation, it should first be treated before injecting Juvederm.
Only a licensed practitioner should administer Juvederm.
- Before getting the injection, let the practitioner know if you are taking any drugs that prolong bruising or bleeding like ibuprofen, aspirin or naproxen.
- After Juvederm injection, inflammation can occur at the area of treatment if chemical peeling, laser treatment or any other dermatological procedure are performed.
- Patients on immunosuppressive therapy should be treated with caution as they have an increased risk of getting an infection.
- Safety use for persons under 18, lactating mothers and pregnant women is yet to be established.
- Studies with respect to patients with excessive scarring like keloid formation and hypertrophic scarring as well as pigment disorders have not been done.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects of Juvederm before and after are mild and last for a maximum of 7 days in most cases. Common side effects include:
- Risk of infection
- Discoloration
- Itching
- Bruising
- Lumps/bumps
- Swelling
- Firmness
- Tenderness/pain
- Redness
- If the swelling and redness persists for several days, consult your doctor.
